Briggs Field

Briggs Field serves as the home field for the MIT softball program, in addition to the recreation field beyond the outfield fence that is used by over 80 club and intramural programs. The softball field was fully-renovated during the summer of 2016 and is now one of the top playing facilities in the region. Part of a multi-million dollar outdoor facility renovation project, the playing field was resodded, a new infield surface was installed, all new fencing now encloses the field to go along with new batting cages and bullpens. Briggs Field was named in honor of Major Frank Briggs ’81. In 1897, when it was found necessary to form an organization to regulate the general athletic interests of Tech students, to exercise supervision, and if necessary, to assume control of all funds connected with athletics, Major Briggs was chosen chairman of the board, thus forming the MIT Athletic Advisory Council.
